When people face trauma or loss of connection with their loved ones, often they feel as
if their lives are coming undone. Life after trauma can become overwhelming as we
begin to feel powerless and without hope.
I’m passionate about helping couples and families build on their strengths to restore
healthy connections and bring resilience and comfort back into their lives. I believe that
discovering and emphasizing the strengths within each of us is key to our healing, as
we find ourselves more at peace and more whole with each new discovery.
My practice of counseling is not based on a one-style-fits-all approach. I recognize that
human being, couple, or family has different strengths, resources, and challenges, and I
utilize a range of treatment modalities beginning with a culturally competent approach.
The couples I work with, both hetero and same-sex, have seen success in restoring
brokenness in their relationships, rebuilding their friendship, understanding each other’s
parenting styles, and healthier coparenting if their relationships have dissolved. While
telehealth has been an unexpected change, one benefit is that couples or coparents
can meet with me without needing to be in the same location! In our sessions, we’ll talk
honestly, I’ll listen nonjudgmentally, and I’ll give you honest feedback. I love to
collaborate with my clients to learn what solutions will work best for their unique
My educational background includes a M.A. in Marriage, Couple, and Family
Counseling and a B.S. in Psychology, both from Regent University, as well as
certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional. I attribute so much of my professional
development as a clinician outside the classroom to my own life experience, including
14 years as an active duty U.S. Marine, spouse of a Marine, and mom to our U.S.
Marine daughter and our two other children. I share a deep understanding with
servicemembers and their families that military and paramilitary life brings a distinct set
of struggles and strengths.
Serving and helping others has been my great lifelong passion, and I am honored to
continue my work of helping others thrive at Sunrise Counseling and Psychological
Services in Virginia Beach, VA.
